Unclaimed Keno prize to be used for rural race clubs
The prize represents 2 million Australian dollars
The Government of New South Wales in Australia has announced a series of measures to be taken in response to the growing number of critics that claim the lack of support received by the racing industry during the equine flu crisis.
Among the measures to be taken, the Government has announced that it will provide 7.5 million dollars of direct assistance. Primary Industries Minister Ian Macdonald said: “this assistance package will help alleviate some of the damage caused by the horse flu outbreak while also investing in the long term future of racing in NSW”.
This assistance package includes 2 million dollars corresponding to an unclaimed Keno prize that will be used to establish a Capital Grants Program to help regional and rural clubs across the three codes.
Despite these announcements, made by Ian Macdonald and the Gaming and Racing Minister Graham West, the administrators of the racing industry in the area still feel that the amount of support provided is not enough to overcome the damages caused by the equine flu crisis and they put as an example the support given for the same concept to the industry by the Queensland Government, which represented an assistance of 20 million.
