The online community MySpace.com announced it will introduce gaming to its social networking website. Backgammon will be included among the offered games from the very beginning. Other games included on this first stage will be Chess and “Dino and Aliens”.
Owned by Murdoch’s News Corp, My Space will launch the games with a new partner: the games company Oberon Games. The games will all be multiplayer, allowing users to play against one another. Incorporating this new feature is intended to help users get to know each other.
The website will allow players to stick little games on their profile. In a later phase of the project, a toolkit will be released for budding developers who wish to share their own games on the social network.
One of MySpace competitors, the Facebook online community, launched gaming features a few months ago. It looks like adding gaming to MySpace’s already plentiful features might be the company’s way not to find themselves a step behind their competitors.
